Cansleep is a Christchurch-based provider of Sleep Medicine diagnostics and therapeutics. We offer a comprehensive service of the highest quality, which incorporates specialist clinical assessment and state-of-the-art sleep studies through to provision of therapy and long-term follow-up. We have also established links with colleagues from ENT and Dentistry.

Our Team
Dr Michael Hlavac
Sleep and Respiratory Physician Michael completed advanced training in Respiratory Medicine at Christchurch Hospital before traveling to Australia to gain experience in Sleep Medicine. He spent 3 years at the Adelaide Institute for Sleep Health in South Australia where he completed sleep full FRACP Level 2 sleep training and completed a PhD in the field of sleep medicine. He is currently Clinical Director of Sleep Services at Christchurch Hospital. |

Dr Teurai Chikura
Respiratory and Sleep Physician
Teurai is a Respiratory Physician with an interest in sleep. After moving from Zimbabwe 10 years ago, Teurai undertook FRACP accredited training in Respiratory medicine at Dunedin and Christchurch Hospitals. Teurai has comprehensive experience in the diagnosis and treatment of sleep disorders including sleep apnoea. He regularly reports diagnostic sleep studies including polysomnography at Christchurch Hospital.

Sleep and Respiratory Physician
Kate is a respiratory physician with a special interest in both respiratory and non-respiratory sleep disorders and non-invasive ventilation. She graduated with Honours from the University of Nottingham in the UK before completing her advanced training in respiratory medicine at Dunedin and Christchurch hospitals. She worked as a consultant in sleep medicine at Christchurch hospital from 2013-2016. Following this, she was appointed as head of the department for sleep and home ventilation at the York and Scarborough NHS Trust in the UK prior to returning to Christchurch with her family.

Sleep Physiologist
Yvonne trained as a Respiratory Physiologist in Christchurch before completing full Sleep Technologist training in Perth where she worked as Charge Sleep Technologist at the St John of God Respiratory and Sleep Centre. She has extensive experience in Sleep Diagnostics and CPAP provision.

Emma trained in Christchurch before working as a Sleep Physiologist in Adelaide, London, Birmingham, and Manchester. She has a Post Graduate Diploma in Medical Technology specialising in sleep, as well as a Master of Public Health.
